Not everyone who speaks Persian is comfortable reading the Persian script. A macro is included with PerScribe for converting Unicode Persian text (for instance an e-mail message or Web page) to the Latin alphabet. This is in any case necessary if you want to edit or add to any Persian text written by someone else. Being able to switch from one alphabet to the other can also improve communication between the generations: in her Eurofarsi article Zabãn e Mãdari yã Xatt e Pedari , Giti Edalati cites examples of second-generation Iranian children living abroad who have rapidly become literate in their own language through the use of romanized spelling (rather than struggling with an unfamiliar script at weekend Persian classes). Kudak in xatt rã balad ast. Dar hamãn madrese ye xod aš dãrand yãd aš midahand. Dar hamãn ruzhã ye hafte dãrand yãd aš midahand.
