No special keyboard or font needed—just start typing.

PerScript (Persian JavaScript) is a system for typing Persian with a Latin-script keyboard using current versions of Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Netscape (unfortunately, for technical reasons it will not work with Netscape 4). In Windows XP/2000 with Farsi language support your text can be pasted into a Word document for further formatting.

PerScript is much more than just a simple keyboarding tool: it incorporates the key fundamental features of the Persian language itself to make typing easier, faster and error-free.

How it works

Let's take a simple example: the phrase اين ضبط صوت خراب است
Here's how you would type it using PerScript:

Press these keys ... ... to see this on the screen
i ای
n اين
z اين ز
z اين ض
bt اين ضبت
t اين ضبط
s اين ضبط س
s اين ضبط ص
ut اين ضبط صوت
xrab اين ضبط صوت خراب
@st اين ضبط صوت خراب است
in zzbtt ssut xrab @st اين ضبط صوت خراب است

Major PerScript features include:

  • a "feel" for the language: PerScript was developed by a team including fluent speakers of Persian/Farsi.

  • phonetic input: eg type iran for ايران and bceha for بچه‌ها

  • simple spelling for hamzeh, tanvin and other spelling points: eg m@mur for مأمور and f`lan\ for فعلاً

  • "Difficult" letters are easy with PerScript. It's far quicker to press a familiar, phonetic key twice than to hunt for a special key on the edge of the keyboard—and it's easier to learn!

Try your hand at typing words containing the different Z and S letters in the box:

briz = بريز     lZiZ = لذيذ     mrizz = مريض     ZZhr = ظهر
sal = سال     ssadr = صادر     Sabt = ثابت

  • speed-typing shortcuts for common words and grammatical elements: eg N for نيست and GBd for گفته باشد
Try this: hold your mouse cursor over any of these phrases to see how you would type them with PerScript:
      رؤساء،    كشته شده بود،    متأسفانه،    بچه‌های كوچولو،    ياد نگرفته بود
  • sending Persian e-mails
When you are happy with your Persian text you can paste it directly into an e-mail program such as Outlook Express.
