ScriptMaster Software is an independent software consultancy founded in 1993 and specializing in word-processing tools for typing in Microsoft® Word. The languages covered range from those spoken in Central Europe (eg Czech and Hungarian), through the Middle East (Turkish and Persian/Farsi) to China (Chinese in Pinyin romanization). At ScriptMaster we're enthusiastic proponents of Web internationalization—often referred to as i18n for short (well, it does save four syllables!). We also provide software for typing the phonetic symbols of the IPA.Our director, Nigel Greenwood, has extensive experience of Middle and Far Eastern cultures and languages, starting with an honours degree in Oriental Studies from Oxford University. Though now based in the UK, he has spent much of the last 30 years living and working in Greece, Turkey, Iran and China.
The ScriptMaster team includes fluent speakers of the languages covered by our range of software packages. This means that each package incorporates specific, fundamental features of the language in question—for example
- vowel harmony in Turkish
- codes for the inflected forms of Russian participles
- accentuation in Modern Greek
Our interest in international communication is also reflected in the web pages devoted to the IPA and the ingenious GR tonal spelling system, which provides an alternative to Pinyin as a way of communicating in Chinese on the Internet using the Latin alphabet.
