A. Turkish language support
___________________________

In order to see the Turkish alphabet properly displayed in Windows you must first ensure that Turkish is recognized by the system: this will convert "" to Yumusak G etc.

1. Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|Windows Setup|Multilanguage Support

2. Click on the "Details..." button and check (select) Trkisch, OK, OK, ...

[Start|Einstellungen|Systemsteuerung|Software|Windows-Setup|Sprachenuntersttzung. Bettigen Sie anschlieend die Schaltflche Details, Versehen Sie "Trkisch" durch Anklicken mit einem Haken und besttigen Sie mit der Schaltflche Ok.]

B. Installation
_______________

1. Copy the new keyboard file:

		kbdtu_de.kbd

to your Windows/System folder.

2. Double-click on the Registry update file:

		addtu_de.reg

This will ensure that the system recognizes the new keyboard layout as a legitimate Turkish layout.

3. Close all running programs.

4. Reboot your machine (Start|Shut Down|Restart).

5. Start|Settings|Control Panel|Keyboard|Language|Add|Turkish, then click OK.

6. Make sure that you can see "Trkisch (deutsche Tastatur)" in the dialog box. If not, click "Eigenschaften" & select "Trkisch (deutsche Tastatur)".

7. Select a suitable method of Switching Languages (the simplest is Left Alt-Shift), and check the "Enable Indicator on Taskbar" option.

8. Click OK. You are now ready to type with the new keyboard layout.

C. Using the keyboard
_____________________

To type in Turkish (eg in Word or Internet Explorer), ensure that you can see the "Tr" indicator in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. Refer to the graphical file turkish_de.gif for the positions of the Turkish letters. In IE you will also need to change to Turkish encoding [View|Encoding|Turkish (Windows)].

The main equivalents are as follows (^ = hold down the AltGr key on the right of the Space Bar):

	For Type this key
	===		=============

X (next to C on keyboard)
	yum. G Q (small q is similar to g)
	I I
	dotted I	J
	j ^j
	J ^k
	S, $
	s, 4 (same key as $)

	,, ^a,^i,^u

	q,x ^q,^x
	Q,X ^1,^y
	4 ^4

Most lower-case Turkish letters can also be typed using the AltGr key: eg ^g for yumusak g, ^s for s,[imdi] etc.

D. Example
__________

Be4jkta4'in maxi kazanacaqina jnanmiyorum

or: Be^sjkta^s'in ma^ci kazanaca^gina jnanmiyorum

= Besiktas'in maci kazanacagina inanmiyorum.

E. Typing Turkish in Notepad (eg when editing HTML)
___________________________________________________

Notepad cannot display the Turkish letters: instead, you must use their ANSI equivalents [eg (=yum. g), (=noktasiz i)]. The trick in this case is to "add" a language that uses the German keyboard [eg Deutsch (Liechtenstein)], then associate with that language the layout "Trkisch (deutsche Tastatur)", as described in step B.6. Now switch to the "other" German keyboard, and whenever you press the Q key you will see a "", etc.

F. Uninstalling German Turkish layout
_________________________________

1. Close all running programs.

2. Double-click on the registry update file:

	uninstal_de.reg

in Windows Explorer. This will restore the original QWERTY (Q-type) Turkish layout.

3. Reboot your machine.
