The two most important features of TScript are the automatic vowel harmony and the speed-typing shortcuts (also known as abbreviations or reverse parsing). These features, which are explained fully in the Help files, are summarised here.
- Vowel harmony (ünlü [sesli] uyumu)
- TScript can usually "decide" whether the next i-vowel should be i or ı; the same applies to
u and ü. Press the I key for both i/İ and ı/I; and the U key for both u and ü. This is less complicated than it sounds! There are several examples on the Help screen.
- Shortcuts
- There are uppercase (capital) abbreviations for about twenty of the commonest grammatical and other word elements: eg
B for -ebil- and C for -(y)ecek-. For example you would type gelmCz for gelmeyeceğiz.
There are also shortcuts for common words such as var, yok, değil, gibi and -türk-.
Other Turkish letters
- The letters I, İ and Ü are discussed under vowel harmony. The remaining Turkish letters are typed as follows:
| For this letter |
Type |
Hint/mnemonic |
| Ç |
X |
Next to C on keyboard |
| G or Ğ |
G |
(program decides) |
| Ö |
OO |
"modified O" |
| Ş |
W |
Above S on keyboard |
| â, î, û |
a^, i^, u^ |
|
Further details are given in the online Help files.
Please note that you should enable Turkish Language Support: in Windows 98 this is done as follows:
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup | Multilanguage Support | Details | Turkish
Unless you do this you will see the special Turkish letters wrongly displayed (for example aþaðý instead of aşağı).
Do not apply the Windows Turkish keyboard settings (Q type or F type): TScript assumes that a standard European/American keyboard is being used.
