PersePhon phonetic Farsi keyboard
PersePhon

PersePhon (Persian Phonetic keyboard) enables you to type Persian in Word using a Latin-script keyboard—QWERTY or similar—in Windows XP and higher. Use PersePhon to turn your computer into a Farsi word-processor.

PersePhon is a phonetic Farsi keyboard—but it is much more than just that: it incorporates the key fundamental features of the Persian language itself to make typing easier, faster and error-free.

Major PersePhon features include:

  • a "feel" for the language: PersePhon was developed by a team including fluent speakers of Persian/Farsi.

  • phonetic input: eg type iran for ايران and bceha for بچه‌ها

  • simple spelling for hamzeh, tanvin and other spelling points: eg ma''mur for مأمور and f`laN for فعلاً

  • "Difficult" letters are easy with PersePhon. It's far quicker to press a familiar, phonetic key twice than to hunt for a special key on the edge of the keyboard—and it's easier to learn!

Try your hand at typing words containing the different Z and S letters in the box:

briz = بريز     lZiZ = لذيذ     mrizz = مريض     ZZhr = ظهر
sal = سال     ssadr = صادر     Sabt = ثابت

  • Try this: hold your mouse cursor over any of these phrases to see how you would type them with PersePhon:
    رؤساء،    كشته شده بود،    متأسفانه،    بچه‌های كوچولو،    ياد نگرفته بود

To evaluate the "look and feel" of PersePhon, please try out our online program PerScript. There are a few differences between the two programs (typing alef and the various forms of hamzeh, for example, is simpler in PersePhon), but the overall approaches are very similar.
