Typing
AutoPers is an add-in for Microsoft® Word (Word 2003 and higher) for rapid phonetic typing of Persian text on a QWERTY keyboard. Using AutoPers you can type Farsi with the minimum of effort—in fact the only effort you will ever need to apply is lifting your finger!
- To type ز ...... press the Z key
- To type ض ...... press the Z key
- To type ذ ...... press the Z key
- To type ظ ...... press the Z key
As you hold down the key for any "difficult" Persian letters (for example, Z, S, H or T) you will see alternative letters for the same sound appear in turn. For example when you hold down the S key you will see the various S letters appear in this order (reading from right to left):
When the correct letter appears, just lift your finger from the key: it really is as simple as that. If you "overshoot" the correct letter, keep your finger down as the letters continue to cycle until the correct one reappears.
Example
Let's take a simple sentence:
سلام عليكم، حال شما چطور است؟
Using AutoPers this would be typed:
slam 'likm, h..al $ma ct..ur ast?.
(The word shoma could also be typed wma.) The dots in h..al and ct..ur simply show that you need to hold down the H and T keys a little longer than usual to generate the letters ح and ط.
Most frequent letter first
The sequence of letters has been chosen so that they appear in order of frequency: so, for example, when you type Z the commonest variant ز appears first and the relatively rare letter ظ appears last.
Adjusting the speed
When you first try AutoPers you may find that at the default speed the letters change either too fast or too slowly.
You can adjust the speed at the click of a button. A little experimentation will soon establish the best setting for AutoPers, given the speed of your processor.
Audio clues
If you prefer touch-typing, an optional beep will sound each time the letter on the screen changes. Lift your finger as soon as you hear the beep for the one you want. Use this option once you are familiar with the program to avoid constant peering at the screen.
Colours
If you prefer watching the screen as you type, this option makes it much easier to identify the letters visually. The letter you are typing will be highlighted, changing colour for each variant: for example ض, ذ, etc.
Dropdown menus
If you cannot remember the correct key for a particular letter, simply click on the appropriate button on the toolbar at the top of the screen. A dropdown list will appear, on which you can click on the required letter. Next to the letter on the menu you will see a reminder of the correct key to type next time you need this letter.
